Compare spreadsheets: table comparison cell by cell

A table comparison shows which cell has changed and states the old and the new value. CompareDesk compares workbooks in XLSX, XLSM, XLS, ODS and CSV format sheet by sheet and cell by cell, on your computer and without upload.

What the table comparison covers

Changed values, changed formulas, changed number formats and changed formatting are covered, as are inserted or removed rows, columns and sheets. Every finding names sheet, cell and column heading so that it can be checked without searching. Two cells with the same value in a different notation do not count as a change.

The comparison suits shareholder registers, purchase price lists, distribution schedules, rent rolls, budgets and any other table where every figure counts.

The result

You receive a result workbook in which changed cells are highlighted and the former value appears as a cell comment, together with a sheet stating the particulars of the check, the checksums of both files and a summary of all differences. On request a table PDF is produced for handing on.

Tables inside Word documents are handled cell by cell in the Word comparison: removed rows and columns are marked as such so that the remaining content does not shift and does not appear changed.

Limits

The content of the cells is compared, not the layout of charts or embedded objects. Presentations are not supported. Details on Excel workbooks are on the page Compare Excel spreadsheets.

Can I compare two Excel files with each other?

Yes. Place both workbooks in the fields and compare. The result is a workbook with highlighted cells and the former value as a comment.

Can I compare a CSV file with an Excel file?

Yes. The formats may differ; CSV, ODS, XLS, XLSX and XLSM can be compared with one another.

Are formulas compared as well?

Yes. Changed formulas are marked separately and shown with the old and the new expression.

What happens with inserted rows?

Inserted and removed rows and columns are recognised as such, so the remaining cells do not appear changed merely because they have moved.
