Document comparison for law firms: contract comparison you can stand behind

The other side reports three changes. Whether there really were only three is decided not by the cover letter but by the comparison. CompareDesk is built for work with contracts, articles, foundation deeds and pleadings, that is for cases in which every word counts and the reviewer must defend the finding before third parties.

Contract comparison in everyday practice

The Word draft against the returned version, the draft against the signed PDF, the scanned old version against the fair copy: each of these is a comparison in less than a minute. The result is a Word file with genuine tracked changes that can be accepted or rejected one by one in Word, or a comparison PDF that can be handed to clients and the other side. Authors' comments appear in it as legible margin notes with names and a note whether they are new or deleted.

Verifiable before third parties

Every output states the SHA-256 checksum of both compared files. A file name does not prove which version was compared; the checksum does. Every comparison produces a signed comparison certificate that proves, years later and without a network connection, that exactly these versions were compared at this time with this result.

Confidentiality by design

Professional secrecy tolerates no upload. CompareDesk processes the documents solely on the firm's computer; there is no cloud and no third-party server, not even for text recognition. For firms with several workstations there are team licences and signature-based keys that are checked without an internet connection and allow unattended deployment through a central configuration file.

What CompareDesk is not

CompareDesk is not an add-in for Word and not an integration with a document management system such as iManage or NetDocuments. The comparison starts in the window, from Windows Explorer with the right mouse button or from the command line. It runs on Windows.

Does CompareDesk replace review by the lawyer?

No. It reports what has changed. Whether a change is material, permissible or acceptable is for the lawyer to judge.

Can I integrate the comparison into my firm's workflows?

Yes. Single comparison, batch comparison and version chain can be run from the command line with machine-readable output.

Are there licences for several workstations?

Yes, a team licence in the Microsoft Store and dedicated signature-based keys for companies and law firms.

Try CompareDesk
